The resonators |
 |
 |
The resonators of the bin have always been made from the
fruit of an inedible variety of cucurbits.
These gourds – always grown close to a water source – are selected for their shape and their volume. |
Maintained in an extremely humid environment,
they retain their pliability and can be moulded to the desired shape, according to the requirements or the
appearance that one would wish to give them. The choice of resonators follows a specific set of criteria;
and when a resonator is damaged, instead of being replaced, it is stuck back or repaired. In fact, there is
a widespread belief in the musical community that a repaired gourd will acquire a much better resonance. |
